Lee James
Baggs, Jr.

Lee James Baggs, Jr. was born in Cochran, Georgia to Susie Wimberly Baggs and Lee James Baggs, Sr. He joined Longstreet Baptist Church at an early age and graduated from Cochran High School in 1972. Junior spent the “70” in Chicago and eventually back to Bleckley County.


Protecting and serving his community, Lee James joined the Bleckley County Sheriff’s Department in February 15, 1982. He worked for 29 years with the Georgia Department of Corrections throughout Dooly and Tattnall Counties in the Sheriff’s division. Lee James was faithful on patrol for 30 years until he hung up his keys and preformed the duties of prison transport and bailiff at the Bleckley County Courthouse. With the dispatch sign of “Bleckley 6”, he went from deputy to lieutenant to captain.


Lee James was united in holy matrimony to Jessie Pearl Baggs on June 25, 205. His children Sherrell, Lee James, III, Deloris, Laura, James Lee, Lexmark and Maria. Siblings: Annie, Shirley, Cleo, Bernice, Lur Jean, JoAnne and Charles Baggs.


Lee James Baggs, Jr. served God, loved his family, and protected his community.
